Playa Madera is a small beach located just a few steps away from downtown Zihuatanejo as well as many of the lodging options in Colonia la Madera. There is a paved walkway winding from Paseo del Pescador (the Fisherman's Walk) that takes you to Playa Madera and then carries along the rocky shoreline that skirts town heading towards Playa la Ropa. The walkway affords many great photo spots with views of the entire bay, sailboat moorings, downtown and the surrounding hills.The beach itself is popular with families because of its gentle surf and soft sand. You'll often see kids playing soccer and frisbie on the wet sand while a lot of locals also include this beach in their daily morning walks and to exercise their dogs.
Playa Madera is home to a few small restaurants that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Perched above the beach are several condominiums, B&Bs and bungalow rentals that often offer amazing water views, refreshing bay breezes and easy access to town, all for far less expensive rates than vacation rentals on Playa la Ropa.
