Artisan's Market

NileGuide Expert tip:
The Artisan's Market is strategically located near the pier to take advantage of cruise ship passengers during high season. If you are in town for more than a day or two, you'd be wise to visit on a day that isn't packed with cruise ship passengers for a more enjoyable, less pressured shopping experience.
Description:
Don't be distracted by the tshirts and keychains hanging in front of many of the Artisan Market stalls. This truly is an artisan's space that features hand crafted bowls, plates and other household goods that you can watch being painted by the vendors themselves. You'll also find silver jewelry from Taxco, traditional clothing, leather goods and handmade toys and instruments. While bargaining is expected, bear in mind that the bulk of the items are indeed handmade and represent a rich history of culture and family traditions. (For the best bargaining position, offer to buy multiple items.) While the stall owners are competitive, there is also a unique communal spirit. If you tell a vendor what you are looking for and they don't have it, they'll often help you ask around to other artisans to find that perfect Zihuatanejo souvenir to take home.
