Santa Prisca Pozoleria
Address:
NileGuide Expert tip:
Don't come if you're in a hurry or want a quiet afternoon because lingering and loud music is part of the Thursday pozole ritual.
Description:
Tradition rules on Thursday at Santa Prisca Pozoleria where the authentic Mexican soup,
pozole, is served with all the trimmings. The soup is a staple in the state of Guerrero and Thursdays is the official day to eat it with everyone staking claim that their favorite pozoleria is the best. Order the
verde (green) or
blanco (white) varieties with chicken or pork. If you want to look like a real insider order the spiciest variety,
rojo (red), that isn't on the menu!) Each bowl of soup comes with a plate of
botanas -- an array of Mexican appetizers including mini
chili rellenos, fresh
chicarrones (pork rinds), chips & bean dip and cheese
taquitos. What the soup doesn't come with is a user manual so here's the secret: dump the accompanying avocado, radishes, onions, lime, chiles, spices and anything else you can grab into the bowl and then dig in! Savor the soup with a beer, shot of local
mezcal or a pitcher of refreshing limonada while enjoying live music at this weekly
fiesta.
