Description:

La Casa Vieja translates as "The Old House" but actually is located in a garden.  Misnomer aside, it's worth a visit to the traditional Mexican restaurant where you feel like you just might be eating your dinner in someone's own personal jardín.  While you're waiting for your meal, wander around to check out the antique sewing machines, wagon wheels, abundance of tropical plants and fountains as well as traditional Mexican photographs and art.  You won't be waiting for long, though.  The waiters are friendly, attentive and most speak English.  As soon as your order is placed, you'll get a dish of fresh made tortilla chips, beans and the house salsa.  However, don't indulge too much in the free appetizers as the entree portions at La Casa Vieja are some of the largest in town.  There's plenty of food to share or take to go -- ask for a few extra tortillas to make yourself a breakfast burrito in the morning!

Popular entrees include two pork dishes -- a slow-roasted pork served on kebabs with grilled vegetables and pineapple called cochinita pibil as well as the very hearty pork chops.  The grilled fresh local catch and the sauces served with the various steak offerings are also customer favorites.  On Thursdays, La Casa Vieja embraces the Guerrero-tradition of eating pozole soup with several varieties served, live music and a party atmosphere running from 2pm through the evening.  The restaurant opens early on Sundays for a buffet that features homestyle Mexican breakfast traditions.
