Zihuatanejo is well known for its seafood and traditional Mexican dishes but Jungle Pizza provides a welcome culinary break from the coconut shrimp and tacos al pastor. The restaurant is an open air space centered around a custom-built wood burning oven located towards the end of Playa la Ropa in a palm grove (making it, quite literally, "Jungle Pizza"). There are several popular pizzas on the menu including a classic margherita, Hawaiian and veggie but you can also create your own pizza from a large list of ingredients. In addition to traditional pizza fixings like mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, pepperoni and olives, you'll also find unique Mexico flavors such as a refried bean sauce, chipotle chicken, Oaxaca cheese and arrachera (a Mexican marinated steak). Round out your meal with fresh salads as well as miniature house made ice cream cakes.The tranquil tropical setting -- with wifi! -- is a nice break away from downtown restaurants and the crowded beach but if you don't feel like heading out, there is home delivery.
