You won't find discount chain hotels in Zihuatanejo. For the budget conscious, this is actually a good thing! Instead of cookie cutter motels, you'll find small family-owned bungalows, "casas de huespedes" and hotels. Although low on luxury, you'll get personal service, access to local insider information and usually a hammock or two. As competition grows, some of even the cheapest spots offer wifi or free coffee in the mornings. However in Mexico, amenities such as hot water, private bathrooms or kitchen access aren't always standard so ask ahead for exactly what you get with your room rate. Also bear in mind that most budget options won't take credit cards.
