Almost no one goes to Yosemite Valley's twin sister, Hetch Hetchy, but it's truly worth a visit. On Tioga Road, the trail to May Lake keeps going up, to the summit of Mt. Hoffmann, a viewing platform near the geographic center of the park. South of here is the under-appreciated Cloud's Rest, an easy photo study from Olmsted Point or a long hike to the summit. Further east, Parson's Lodge anchors the Soda Springs area with a summer series of lectures and presentations by notable speakers. Out of Tuolumne Meadows is an under-rated, easy, wild and beautiful day hike or backpack up Lyell Canyon. Just over Tioga Pass, theTioga Pass Resort serves up excellent food, with a specialty in pies. In Yosemite Valley, free art classes from master instructors are had most days of the week all summer. A dayhike that few people do from Yosemite Valley is to go past Mirror Lake and up the Snow Creek Trail; even going up just 10 switchbacks gets you an astounding view of Half Dome and Tenaya Canyon. Evergreen Lodge is an out-of-the-way place that has become a destination of its own, with good food, comfortable lodging, live music, and access to nice walks near Hetch Hetchy. It's easy to predict that you'll find more gems of your own in Yosemite.
