Most visitor and locals lists have to start with the grand Ahwahnee, where elegant dining is framed by huge windows that take in the trees and cliffs right outside. Come for breakfast, if you're not sure about spending big or dressing up for dinner. Locals love the summer when they can get to Lee Vining and the famous "Mobil Mart," or Whoa Nellie Deli - a surprising treasure hidden in a roadside gas station mini-mart. This desert gem has become a destination in its own right.
Other summer-only facilities include the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge where dining is family style and you'll get to sit with other travelers and the paper napkins are hiking trail maps where you can mark good views, campsites, waterfalls, etc. White Wolf and the Curry Village deck are also closed in the winter.
People who come to really see Yosemite will grab some picnic supplies at Degnan's Deli and hit the trail for dining al fresco. This might be the very best way to dine well, have a priceless atmosphere and truly be in the park.
