You're in Yosemite, you're on vacation, likely with family or friends and you're having a good time: you're looking for one of Yosemite's fun restaurants. The general good, holiday moods for most people and the mix of visitors from all over the world make a lot of the park area's dining unusually enjoyable. The pizza deck at Curry Village is a place with lots of hustle and bustle, a TV with sports on, and lots of mixing and mingling over pitchers of beer. Right next door is the big amphitheater where great programs are presented each night- a pretty fun place to eat.
Over in the East Side town of Lee Vining is the yummy and hopping Whoa Nellie Deli; part of the fun there is the skepticism that many people bring into this gas station mini-mart which then becomes happy approval. There's truly delightful food, lots of park employees on their weekends, frequent live music and a green lawn surrounded by sagebrush with a primo view of Mono Lake.
The Bug in Midpines also has a great mish-mash of foreign visitors, a high proportion of young folks, live music and a funky atmosphere. Planning a picnic on a hike in the park is always fun - go to Degnan's to get a sandwich made to order, a salad and everything else you need for a good lunch out in a fun place with a view. The top of Vernal Fall is a good bet for people- and nature-watching, but beware the aggressive ground squirrels and do not let them get even a crumb of your food.
