If you're traveling by bus across the southern Yucatan Peninsula you will more than likely stop in Xpujil, which is the largest town on Highway 186 and the gateway to the fabulous Mayan archeological sites in southern Campeche.Inside the bus station, you will find Restaurante La Victoria, which also rents hotel rooms upstairs. The fare is simple: vegetable soup, chicken served fried, baked, breaded and grilled, and tacos al pastor are among about 15 lunch and dinner choices, as are sandwiches and hamburgers. At breakfast, eggs are served with sausage, ham, or bacon, and hot cakes are on the menu, too. Beverages include the region's famous agua de fruta – "fruit water" – with hibiscus and tamarind available by the glass or pitcher.
From this same building, buses depart for the city of Campeche and the Mayan ruins along Highway 186: Xpujil, Becan, Chicanna, and Calakmul.
