Hotel Calakmul, located just west of Xpujil's main drag, is a good choice for travelers seeking less expensive accommodations in southern Campeche. The hotel offers no-frills lodging at reasonable rates and boasts a lovely owner, Maria de Jesus Cabrera Dominguez, who speaks some English and tries hard to make your stay at her family's hotel a pleasant one.Fourteen clean, basic guest rooms are located along outside passageways in a two-story, tile-roofed building, which faces a green lawn and trees. Each room has cool white tile floors, colorfully printed bedspreads, a wooden table and two chairs, and color TV. There's nothing fancy about the bathrooms, which are neat and deliver ample hot water.
Don't confuse Xpujil's Hotel Calakmul for the much more expensive accommodation, Hotel Puerta Calakmul, which is located within the bioreserve itself. While staying here, visit the Mayan ruins of Xpujil, Becan, Chicanna, and Hormiguero.
