Description:
Just a little over 20 miles to the west of London in the county of Berkshire is one of the Queen's royal residences, Windsor Castle. Favored and used as frequently as Buckingham Palace, the castle has been in use since the 11th century. Built by William the Conqueror but it was Edward III who added the splendid Round Tower in the 1300s that can be seen for miles, even from the London Eye on a clear day. Admission to the castle includes the State Apartments which are every bit as spectacular as those in Buckingham Palace. Kids enjoy the Queen Mary's intricate dolls' house complete with electricity and running water, reported to have taken 3 years to complete. Also within the compound is St. George's Chapel, one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in England. It is the sight of many royal weddings and burials, including Henry VIII's tomb. Take a look behind the scenes in the optional guided tour of the Great Kitchen or in August and September climb the Round Tower for fabulous views across Windsor Great Park
