Description:
Feel the rumble of the railroad as it rocks its riders gently back and forth along this historic route from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Though most of the plateau is situated at around 5,000 feet, the Grand Canyon Railway takes visitors on a nostalgic journey beginning in the high country, about 7,000 feet, where the train zigzags through towering ponderosa pine, then descends into flat desert lands where pinion and juniper give way to grassy sage, mountain ash, and finally flat desert. Approaching the Grand Canyon, the train begins to climb back up. It is not uncommon to see many examples of high country wildlife along this route as well. To get to the Railway in Williams, get off I-40 at Exit 163 and go south for 1/2 mile. The Railway is located on the west side of the street. Rates vary depending on desired class and date.
