The 2nd District is separated from the center of Vienna by the Danube Canal. This area is mostly a residential suburb. Its main offering is the Prater, a vast city park with a Ferris wheel, woods and recreational facilities. Between 1600 and 1939 this district was the center of Vienna's Jewish community. The Strauss family, Gustav Mahler, Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud and Theodor Herzl each lived here at some point in their lives.
