Mont Pelerin

NileGuide Expert Says:

There are so many choices on Mont Pelerin depending on your desires and the weather (only go up the funicular if it's clear as the lake can accumulate fog especially in winter). By all means hike around the forest if that is your preferred activity. For the flute-of-champagne-on-the-terrace set, stroll along the Chemin de la Mirador for an apertif or meal at the Le Mirador Kempinski Belle Epoque Hotel.

NileGuide Expert tip:

Local expert Sonja Holverson:You can take the Mont Pelerin Funicular which is 20 minutes from the Vevy station to the top and is easily found (bus 1 to the funicular) when you're at the nearby Vevey train station or even in Montreux. Vevey is a major stop on the Lake Geneva Swiss Rail routing from Geneva to Milan.

Description:

Mont Pelerin (Mount Pilgrim in English which no one uses)at 800 m (2'624 ft.)oversees the entire Lake Geneva Region including the Swiss and French Alps as well as the villages and the town of Vevey below. At the top there is a short easy hike (1 hour) to the TV and Telephone tower (called "Plein Ciel" or Mid Air) with an elevator to take you to the Swiss heavens to view the region from the sky. You can make your visit to Mont Pelerin a hiking experience enjoying many trails in the forest or you can walk a short ways (asphalt) to some of the restaurants such as Hostellerie Chez Chibrac and/or Le Mirador Kempinski Hotel for a drink or meal from their panoramic vantage points. This view will impress you and you will never forget it.
