Vancouver is an ideal destination if you're looking to stay active and get outside to enjoy nature. With the many trails to hike, paths to cycle, bodies of water to swim in, mountains to ski down and various other outdoor activities, you will not have time to sit around getting bored.
Grouse Mountain is number one because it's open year-round and there are activities for all seasons. The Grouse Grind is a favorite amongst locals to do when the weather is warmer. It's not for the faint of heart, but rather those that really enjoy, and are able, to hike some steep steps for about an hour or so. During the ski season, Grouse is open for everyone to enjoy, whether you ski, snowboard or like tubing. Cypress is also a Vancouver classic and is a popular spot during the winter months for skiers and snowboarders. Both mountains are just a short drive from the city, which makes it an idea day, afternoon or evening trip.
The Seawall sums up Vancouver's summer in a nutshell; water, beaches, city, sunshine and fabulous views. Grab a bike, Rollerblade, run, walk or skateboard your way around the city. It's the most perfect way to spend a sunny day and there are plenty of beaches, parks and concession stands to stop and take a little time out, while you enjoy the beautiful views.
The UBC Golf Course will get you out in the fresh air and work on your skills. It's not far from downtown Vancouver and after a long day on the greens, there are plenty of restaurants in Kitsilano to take advantage of to replenish your energy.
Any of Vancouver's beaches are packed during the summer months and you can join other swimmers in the Pacific Ocean to get your heart rate up and cool down from the warm Vancouver sun.
Hiking trails are all around Vancouver and they vary in difficulty, so it's best to do your research first to make sure you will find one that fits your level. The Buntzen Lake Circuit is not overly difficult, but is a great circuit for those who like to exercise.
