NileGuide Expert tip:
Even if you are not hungry, the bar is a lively, relaxed place to meet locals and fellow travelers. Try the coco loco, served in a fresh, green coconut with vodka and the mint spritzer, Mateo's version of a mojito. If you do eat, be sure to ask for the fire-roasted house salsa.
Description:
This is a fun outdoor restaurant and bar on Tulum Beach. Though it is not right on the beach, it has a lovely garden area with almond and palm trees and hand-made wooden tables and chairs. The menu includes tacos, burgers, kabobs, and grilled dinners. The Baja style fish tacos are good, the fish dishes include fish caught locally, and the sample platter with arrachera (marinated beef), shrimp, and quesadillas is perfect for two people to share over drinks. The mango salsa and the roasted house salsa are exceptional. Prices range from 90 to 240 pesos for main plates. Their prices are moderate to low for the beach area. They have a full bar and non-alcoholic drinks include fresh fruit juices and smoothies. The all-Mexican staff is very friendly, and ex-pat, Mateo, is a great host. (He also does tours to nearby sites, and offers a variety of unique trips to Sian Ka'an.)
