Description:
The ancient Hohokam Indians lived in Colossal Cave and around the valley floor from around 900AD to until approximately 1450. Today, Colossal Cave sits above the sprawling bedroom community of Vail on Tucson's far east side. Since the cave stays a steady 70 degrees year-round, it's a popular retreat for locals and an adventure for visitors. Colossal Cave is a dry cave, which means its stalactites and stalagmites are no longer growing. These caves still hold mysteries too: The cave's estimated 39 miles of maze-like passageways have never been fully explored. Colossal Cave is a 45-minute drive from mid-town Tucson.
