Fuente de la Santa Cruz
Address:
Description:
In 1646, the king Felipe IV of Spain, gave the city of Tlaxcala a stone fountain, ornamented with 6 angels and a cross, to be the main water supplier of the city. Tlaxcala got its water from the Zahuapan river close by, but the king felt that the city needed a dispenser appropriated for the beauty and importance of the city. It was placed in the center of the
Arms Square, so everybody could see it and use it.
The Fountain de la Santa Cruz substituted an old 1548 more discreet fountain.
