The term "hip" in Taos takes on a whole new meaning. Night clubs aren't to be found anywhere; instead, funky casitas where the likes of D.H. Lawrence or Dennis Hopper used to hang out are what you'll find. The original hipsters-the beatniks, passed through Taos, and crashed at several of these properties. Hippies came later and formed communes, some of which evolved into beds&breakfasts. The Historic Taos Inn, called the living room of Taos, is one the hippest places to hang out; you'll rub elbows with ski bums and movie stars, and nobody cares who is who, only that the live music keep playing.
