Description:
Located near Taipei's Confucius Temple, Bao-an temple was built in 1830 as a place to honor the Taoist god of medicine. During the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, the site was used as a language school and was refurbished in the early 1900s to restore it to its original glory.
The agricultural tribes that originally worshipped at the temple celebrated the birthday of Baosheng Emperor annually, and if you're lucky enough, you may be able to attend the modern-day festivities at the temple grounds. If your travels bring you to Taipei during the third lunar month, usually falling between March and May, come enjoy the parades, Dragon Dance, folk opera performances and free Chinese medicine clinics, all while witnessing several traditional Taoist temple rituals.
