While Kao Chi opened before it's main competitor Din Tai Fung (the McDonald's of dumplings), it has been overshadowed ever since. The nice thing about Kao Chi is that the infamous steamed pork buns are equally tasty, cost less and involve fighting your way through a much smaller crowd.The dumplings burst with soupy goodness after your first bite, and the menu of Shanghai favorites is much more extensive than nearby Din Tai Fung. The flagship restaurant is three stories tall, so seating is rarely an issue. The service is friendly and quick, and you'll even get complementary tea with your meal.
