Description:
Petersham is not one of Sydney's most salubrious areas. While it is firmly amongst the desirably funky inner-West suburbs, it is not particularly well known, and its public transport links are not that great. Petersham is, however, a great little centre of Portuguese culture - and thus a place devoted to the art of poultry-cooking, and Audley Street (where you will find Perama) is liberally dotted with fun little Portuguese restaurants. Perama is the exception, however, being Greek in orientation – nonetheless, they turn out a fine fowl, and the restaurant is as relaxed as its surrounds, with good service and gourmet Greek dishes like a Byzantium mezze plate that ranges from the sweetness of peppered honey figs, grilled and marinated artichokes, and spinach filo pie. If the weather is good there's a nice outdoor courtyard.
