Description:
Hip, modern, and not that well known as yet, the Foveaux Restaurant + Bar is a great little find in the lower reaches of Surry Hills, a mixed neighborhood a little less discovered than Surry Hills' 'Paris end' higher on the hill. Lower Surry Hills possesses rather an interzone feel, with busy streets and wonderful large warehouse buildings from the early 20th century, many of which are now protected by heritage laws, and it's only a few minutes walk from Central Station, which makes it easy to get to. The Foveaux has a bar downstairs, which is relaxed and has a wide range of options at prices that keep the hoi polloi on the outside… upstairs the restaurant space is curated in minimalist style, and has a hip menu, doing its best to keep up with the molecular fashions of Ferran Adria and Heston Blumenthal – think variations on foam and odd and unusual combinations of ingredients. However, the prices in the Foveaux are not outrageous. A sample from the menu: roasted yabby tails (yabbies are an Australian freshwater crustacean) on crisp confit chicken wings with mild and eggy sweet corn custard, and popcorn.
