In a city strangely devoid of many places devoted to laughs, this has been Sydney's premier comedy gig since 1981. It's not as if we don't have a sense of humour. Comedy festivals exist all over the country, and many of our top comedians, when they're not hosting television seies, headline shows around the world.
But closer to home there just aren't that many venues. So thank goodness for the Comedy Store. You get two pants-wetting hours of hilarity from a line up of the nation's (and the world's) best comedians. Their in-house host is pretty damn good too.
Tucked between the car-park and the back of the Entertainment Quarter (formerly known as Fox Studios), the Store incorporates an OK lounge bar, perfect for before-and-after beverages. There's even table service during the show. And if food's an issue, just show your tickets at select restaurants in the EQ for a 10% discount.
Stand-up comedy is one of those dark arts; we all think we can tell a joke, but a rare few can make a living from it. It's only when you come away from a great night at the Comedy Store that you say: "We should do this more often."
