Finding the most fun restaurants on St. Thomas requires you to first define "fun." Do you prefer boisterous music with your meal? Slot machines and pool? Or just proximity to fun attractions? Whatever your preference, there are plenty of upbeat and fun restaurants that can add a little extra pleasure to your holiday experience on St. Thomas.
Some of the most entertaining restaurants are those that combine a restaurant and bar. Establishments such as the Greenhouse, Big Bambooz, Shipwreck Landing or Molly Malone's all offer burgers, drinks and a party atmosphere (with most of the craziness happening from happy hour onward). The Greenhouse (on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront) has live music many nights, and Shipwreck Landing (in Havensight) offers pool tables, Keno machines, large-screen TVs and a convivial atmosphere.
Yacht Haven Grande is also home to many fun eating spots. For something different, try the Hubbly Bubbly Hookah Lounge, which offers amazing Middle Eastern specialties like
babaganoush and
falafel along with flavored
shisha (tobacco). Also in Yacht Haven is Fat Turtle, a popular waterside watering hole with oodles of atmosphere. At Fat Turtle you can enjoy large family-style portions and fabulous frozen drinks while listening to live music, participating in contests, and watching plasma televisions during the "party that never ends."
For some Caribbean food in a fun setting, try Trenchtown Rock, a relatively new addition to the dining scene in downtown Charlotte Amalie. It features Jamaican specialties such as jerk chicken, curried goat, oxtail, ackee and saltfish, and callaloo in a lively and casual environment. And the drinks are cheap during happy hour! Fungi's, at the Point Pleasant resort, also specializes in Caribbean food, which it serves up in a relaxed beachside setting with reggae music as an accompaniment. Fungi's' ultra-casual atmosphere is also great for kids.
And lastly, for a slightly more upscale -- but still fun -- dining experience, try Buddha Sushi Lounge. The food is creative, the music interesting, and the sushi chefs are very flirtatious. For a group of girls looking for a fun night out, Buddha Sushi is the place to be.
