With its reputation as a charming historic town, Savannah isn't always given the cerdit it should get when the subject of nightlife arises. However, the city couples an easygoing, sedate quality with a quirky, artsy tendency and it all resolves itself in a host of bars and pubs. Bernie's Restaurant and Bar is conveniently located on the riverfront in one of the city's pre-Civil War cotton warehouses and has the ambiance of an old portside pub. The Boar's Head Tavern and Grill claims to be the oldest restaurant on River Street and is located in a building that was also once a cotton warehouse, like most of the buildings in the area. If it's entertainment you're looking for, Bay Street Blues is your spot. Near River Street and in back of the Quality Inn, Savanna Smiles has a piano bar and not only encourages audience participation, it requires it. The nightlife in Savannah isn't always laid back so be prepared to expend some energy.
