Description:
This "paradise prototype" spreads 327,500 square meters in the city's extreme extreme south, and offers guests the serenity to contemplate man's place in nature.
The Solo Sagrado da Guarapiranga is modeled after three similar locales in Japan designed by Mokiti Okada. His intent was to lay the foundation for the creation of an ideal world, based on beauty, truth and good. Construction, impelled by volunteers from across Brazil and other countries, began in 1991. Today the site attracts flocks of visitors looking for a place to meditate, or just to enjoy the verdant campus.
A splendid 16-pillar temple, with the sky for its ceiling, sits amidst the gardens, waterfalls and forests. Here, once a month, 20,000 people gather for what is known as the Cult of Appreciation.
Solo Sagrado also has a cultural center and auditorium that regularly host art exhibitions, classes and other events.
The grounds are open Wednesday-Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including holidays.
