Before World War II, Estação de Luz served as a central hub for transporting coffee around São Paulo state. Today, trains stopping at its platforms ferry commuters from the city's center to its more far-flung reaches. The Metro stops here too, albeit underground. The building also houses the Museu da Língua Portuguesa, and the Jardim da Luz is right across the street.
