Parque Bicentenario
NileGuide Expert Says:
A lovely walk from Las Condes, or a short one from Vitacura, to what is probably the city's loveliest park.
Address:
Avenida Bicentenario 3800
Santiago, Chile
NileGuide Expert tip:
Come just before sunset to enjoy a beautiful view from the park's vantage point.
Description:
This beautiful park is a large green space in the leafy Vitacura area, fairly far removed from the bustle of the city, yet relatively easy to get to. The park has been an ongoing project since early 2005, and as the plants and trees have grown, more people have come to view it as part of their backyard. There is an ecological pond at one end, with black-necked swans, coi and other animals, and a coin-dispenser with food for you to buy and feed them.
The park also has lots of green space, a skill run for dogs, some nice bouncy climbing structures for children, and lush grass for hanging out and picnicking. There are some 4,000 planted trees, both of indigenous and introduced species, a playground for people with disabilities, bike paths, and a short walking path for a lookout over the city.
The municipal building is adjacent to the park and has restrooms. There is also one restaurant on the east end of the park called Mestizo which gets a great breeze in summer and specializes in pisco sours.
