Description:
Cascada de las Animas, or waterfall of the spirits is a private nature reserve located 60 km from Santiago, in the rocky canyon of Cajón de Maipo, which has national park quality-views. The area of Cascada de las Animas was declared a natural sanctuary in 1995, and has lodging ranging from hotels, to cabins, camping spots and hostels. You can visit the area on a day pass as well, and there are three main trails, horsebackriding, canopy and rafting offered on site or nearby
Hiking is charged per trail, and there are three main hikes, which are the Cascada, to the waterfalll, which is a short hike, and the Meseta and Pangal, which are progressively longer. You can also organize a hike to Parque El Morado (with its eponymous glacier) through Cascada de las Animas, either picking up from your hotel in Snatiago or from the sanctuary itself. That is an all-day trip.
In addition, there is a good restaurant, called El Tribu, an eclectic mix of Asian and Chilean flavors with Indonesian and Thai curries on the menu.
The area can be accessed via public transportation, making a number of transfers, or they can arrange to pick you up (and drop you off, if you like) in Santiago.
