NileGuide Expert tip:
This library is a great place to check out some of Santiago's modern concrete (prettier than it sounds) architecture, and take a break before moving on with your day.
Description:
There's often something interesting happening in and around the relatively new Café Literario, or subscription library and café in Providencia's Parque Bustamante neighborhood. The café sits opposite a giant flat water feature which people sit near to hang out and read or talk and picnic with friends and family, and which frequently attracts model boat enthusiasts who put their craft to the test in the feature before onlookers.
Inside the library itself are many comfortable, quiet places to sit, a decent number of books and newspapers to peruse, and free wifi (which you can also access outside). In addition, there is a small café inside with espresso (not just nescafe) and some sweets for sale. Upstairs there is an outdoor seating area that overlooks the flat water feature.
The park itself is a great place for adults and children alike, with a bike path, climbing structures, trampolines (for kids, for a fee), popcorn and cotton candy for sale on the weekends, and sometimes some interesting juggling or acrobatic silks going on.
