Description:
Santiago's modern library located across from the Quinta Normal Metro and park represents an important cultural investment in education and promotion of cultural, community and literature-related activities in the city. It is a stark building with three floors and several special interest rooms including press and reference, preschoolers, kids, teens and over 18 (where some of the racier literature is kept).
It also has public computers, a small hall where you can watch DVDs and a very strong wifi signal throughout the building. Cultural programming includes plays, storytelling, events for children and art exhibitions at the adjoining gallery. The preschoolers room is particularly comfortable with lots of low couches and a small gated-in area for kids to play. The Santiago library also has its signature
bibliobus, a bus that goes to underserved
comunas (neighborhoods) to bring books.
The library itself is architecturally interesting inside and out, and is laid out a large, treeless modern plaza that lends itself to interesting angles for photography. There is bike parking and it is open Tuesday Through Sunday, during the week from 11:00 AM to 8>30 PM and on the weekends until 5:00 PM.
