Description:
A walk through Patio Bellavista may not be complete without at least tasting some of the best ice cream in Chile, this time at Il Maestrale. These fabulosly creamy home-made gelato-style icecream is made by the locale's owner, Donata Bergmann. She starts with excellent quality ingredients, without flavorings, dehydrated products, chemicals, artificial coloring or chemicals. As if that were not enough, there are also some innovative flavors, including (on occasion) ketchup, cilantro, mote con huesillo (based on a peachy drink in Chile) and even harina tostada, a "toasted flour" flavor based on many Chileans' preferred breakfast of their youth. There's almost always a line at Il Maestrale, and they've recently added a bigger, homier seating area. They also offer good coffee, teas, and several home-made cakes, including one that's a cross between a pavlova and an icecream cake called "merengue lucuma"
