History Attractions in Santiago
Santiago has a fairly long history, having first been founded in 1541, by Spaniard Pedro de Valdivia. Since then it has grown, though fires and earthquakes have done away with many of the original historical buildings. If you want to know more about the history of Santiago, much of your investigation will keep you around the comuna (district) of Santiago Centro (downtown), which is where most of it happened. Close-in areas such as Providencia (where Pedro de Valdivia has a street named after him) were rural or suburban as recently as 60 years ago.
