Santiago is in a prime location to visit two of the main wine-producing regions in the area, the Colchagua and Maipo Valleys. Visitors to any of several nearby wineries are treated (for a price) to sweeping vistas, tours through the arbors and the cellars, an explanation of the production and export of wines, and a variety of different kinds of tastings, (depending on taste and budget). Many of the wineries have lovely grounds and are a good option for lunch in the country before heading back with your bottles in hand (or in a box, if you've purchased lots).
