In a town that does very well in mixing secular parties with religious observance, St. Francis is perfectly placed near the Plaza; present but not dominating, completing the area that is the heart and soul of the City Different. This is the area to stay in if you truly want to stroll and absorb Santa Fe, and fortunately there are plenty of properties nearby. Historic La Posada de Santa Fe dates to the Victorian times of the 1880s, when the cathedral was completed. There's a good spread of room rates, the grounds are gorgeous and El Fuego restaurant is one of the best in town. Just around the corner, La Fonda is another historic hotel at the end of the Old Santa Fe Trail that is a contemporary of the cathedral, has warm bars and excellent food. The Inn and Spa at Loretto is modern, but its look is decidedly Pueblo-influenced and its amenities are top-rate. All of these listed properties are diverse and enjoy the strengths of their particular charms, and they're all a stroll away from St. Francis Cathedral. You'll hear its bells chime on the hour from your room.
