Description:
The Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH) mixes the work of local artists with exhibits that turn an eye to the history of the Central Coast. Specifically, it imagines where the two meet, how where one is from influences the art he or she creates. A long running exhibit at MAH is "Where the Redwoods Meet the Sea: A History of Santa Cruz County and Its People." Looking from the native peoples who were the first residents of Santa Cruz all the way up to the diverse communities that now make this town their home, this exhibit is but one of the many showcasing the land, people, and cultures that make Santa Cruz what it is.
By giving local residents a space that showcases their work, from everything from surf board art to pottery to ceramics to sculpture, MAH fosters a supportive atmosphere that encourages locals to create lasting works of art.
