The Forest of Nisene Marks was almost destroyed by loggers before the Marks family intervened, preserving this beloved state for posterity. Lush foliage, babbling brooks, miles and miles of well tended trails, and a far-away feel keep nature lovers coming back to Nisene Marks weekend after weekend, season after season. The trails at UCSC are a little underwhelming, so heading south to Aptos and the trails of the Forest of Nisene Marks is a welcome wilderness alternative. Whether you hike for an hour or all day, the Forest will win you over. Dogs are welcome on a leash.
