Travel back in time on this strenuous route through one of the Bay Area's most famous mining areas, where at one time cinnabar ore was hauled out of the earth and converted to mercury in fiery brick furnaces. Today, oak woodlands, grasslands, and chaparral are the main attractions of this rugged and remote park. Start at the end of Mockingbird Hill Lane off Almaden Road. Connect the Hacienda, Capehorn Pass, Randol, Day Tunnel, Great Esteam, April, Mine Hill, and San Cristobal trails to top out on Mine Hill.Map:
