Brimming with history and architectural gems, the Haight is a vibrant San Francisco neighborhood that's central to some of the city's most significant sites, including Golden Gate Park. Day 1 - San Francisco

You'll have wake up early to catch a table at the Pork Store Cafe, but the hearty breakfast is worth the wait. Plus, you’ll need the fuel before flashing back to the 1960s during the Flower Power Walking Tour, which covers 12 blocks and explores the Haight’s hippy history and amazing architectural wealth. One of those treasures is the Stanyan Park Hotel. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this award-winning hotel is reminiscent of the Victorian-era, but also offers modern amenities such as free Wifi. Better yet, it’s centrally located to the heart of the Haight and is perched on the edge of Golden Gate Park. After a little R&R and a spot of afternoon tea, head back to Haight Street for some window-shopping as you work your way east toward what’s known as the Lower Haight. At Memphis Minnie’s, scoot up to some chili cheese fries and succulent slow-smoked meats such as beef brisket, turkey breast, and sweet-smoked pork. Top it all off with a beer or four at the Toronado Pub — its wide-ranging, ever-rotating brews cover the globe, from France to Belgium to San Francisco.

Day 2 - San Francisco

Wake up refreshed for another day of exploring on foot. First stop: Golden Gate Park, which sits at the doorstep of the Stanyan Park Hotel. At more than 1,000 acres, the jewel of the city could take weeks to uncover; however, you can get a taste of the parks offerings on its east end, between Seventh Avenue and Stanyan Street. Highlights include the Conservatory of Flowers, the AIDS Memorial Grove, and the 1914 Herschell-Spillman Carousel. Head back toward the Haight for Jamaican jerk chicken and a to-die for spinach salad at Cha Cha Cha!, a funky, fun restaurant that serves up amazing Caribbean fare and a mean sangria. With dusk falling and your energy-upped, head to Alamo Square for the quintessential San Francisco view: a row of beautifully restored Victorians set against the city skyline, the Bay, and beyond. After the 1906 earthquake and fires, residents gathered on the park’s great hill and watched the buildings and lives go up in flames.
