Description:

San Bruno Mountain Park is located in the town of Brisbane, California, south of San Francisco, between U.S. Highway 101 and Interstate 280. This State Park encompasses 2,266 acres and provides a mountain setting within a metropolitan area.

The setting is superb, with hikers and walkers treated to panoramic views from the ridge across the bay, and from the skyscrapers of downtown San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean. In spring, the hills are coated with wildflowers, including poppies, wild irises, and Indian paintbrush. There are also eucalyptus groves and lots of wildlife, like hawks, rabbits, butterflies, and even the occasional coyote. All of this exists hard up against lots of urban development, which is part of what makes the area so special.

It can be very windy and foggy at times, since the 1,000-foot-high ridge catches weather straight off the ocean. Be prepared and dress warmly.
