Marin County
Located north of San Francisco by way of the
Golden Gate Bridge, Marin County is a natural jewel. Not only is it home to
Muir Woods' majestic redwoods, Marin Headlands' rugged cliffs, and
Mt. Tamalpais's breathtaking trails and views, but it also boasts some of California's most beautiful shoreline. Brave the hairpin turns of Highway 1 for unbeatable views of the Pacific Ocean and spend the day exploring tucked away coastal spots such as
Stinson Beach, Bolinas, and
Point Reyes National Seashore.
Marin's towns encapsulate Northern Cali culture. Local, organic fare is more readily available than McDonald's, yoga studios outnumber movie theaters, and outdoorsy types walking their dogs are ubiquitous. While many tourists flock to the quaint, art- and souvenir-filled
Sausalito, other towns worth a visit are serene Mill Valley, Fairfax, and Tiburon, which all offer great dining, shopping, and relaxing vibes.
