With abundant parks, playgrounds, and museums, San Francisco is a wonderland for children. When the weather is nice, let the little ones run out that extra energy at Crissy Field, the 100-acre shoreline park with sweeping views of the Bay. It's often windy so bring layers. Check out the monkeys at the San Francisco Zoo and for more science and animals, the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is a top notch kid-friendly museum. Don't forget to check out the living roof. Yerba Buena Gardens offers lots for tots to do, from the playground to the ice skating rink to bowling. Kids will not be bored at Zeum, the interactive arts and technology museum where they can explore animation, sound and video production, and visual arts.
If you have a budding historian or child interested in ships, take the tour of the SS Jeremiah O'Brien at the Liberty Ship Memorial. Children will wonder at the massive military vessel, which was also where some scenes from the movie Titanic were filmed. Pick up a bag of salt water taffy and check out the kitschy souvenir shops at Fisherman's Wharf. For more amazement, stop into the Ripley's Believe It or Not museum.
