San Diego sits miles from the Mexican border so the city is a mecca for Mexican food, much of which can be sampled on the cheap. Late-night local chains line nearly every corner - from Roberto's to Cotixan, while Old Town is dedicated to San Diego's Spanish heritage and its chow. The one dish not to miss while in San Diego is the local favorite, California Burrito - stuffed to the brim at any eatery with beans, meat, cheese and signature potatoes, the California is often offered up as fries, nachos or tacos as well. Equally as important here in the Golden State are the avocados - always bright green, ripe and plentiful, dishes aren't truly Mexican without a side of guacamole or even simply a slice. Whatever you're willing to spend, the three main ingredients are always going to be rice, beans and corn.
