San Diego might not have a district dedicated to the French, but it is one of the more popular cuisines in the city. Up and down the coast, French bistros are typically the more exclusive and upscale eateries in the city. Typically, the more elusive ones are located downtown, but standard French fare isn't really our forte here. A new French bistro, Gaslamp Rendezvous, is a more recent addition to San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter and serves up fresh French pastries, coffee and entrees in a small shop. Otherwise, traditional favorites in the area include Cafe Chloe, Cavaillon Restaurant, Bernard'O and Oceanaire. French cuisine gets a little more traditional in the Pacific Beach French Gourmet, where they are known for great catering and desserts galore. Head up the coast and you'll find one of the most well known French restaurants on the west coast - Marine Room. The reservation list is long, and overlooks the Pacific Ocean and Dr. Seuss' house. French cuisine doesn't get any simpler only time, just better - especially in San Diego when we fuse our local favorites - like seafood and organic produce - with very standard French flavors. Every year, though there isn't a district called "Little France," we still celebrate the French cuisine and its locals with a French Festival.
