As a big city, San Diego has all your typical fare when it comes to fast food establishments - but those aren't the places locales like to visit when craving something greasy and fatty. The real cravings come for something a little more - especially one little California burger chain that advertises special ingredients and fresh flavors. In-n-Out Burger is an institution in this city, especially since we've only got a few of these establishments in the place. If burgers isn't what you're craving, then head for the next best thing - but finding something consistent in the recipes is the only conventional you'll find at Mexican fast food places. From Robertos to Pokez, Cotixan and more, most of these places are open all day and night, take only cash and serve up traditional Mexican cuisine spliced in with California favorites like the California burrito. Being that San Diego is so close to the border, you will never go wrong when ordering up a place of carne asada fries, a classic bean and cheese or quesadilla. Coming out quick and hot from the stove, you'll forget why you gave up Mexican food in the first place. In the non-traditional sense, Rubio's is a local favorite - and local find - that is now a national brand. The one thing you don't want to miss if you spot a Rubio's near your destination in San Diego (which should be easy to do), is pick up a fish taco. They are legendary. Enough said. A lot of things have changed in San Diego, but our fast food isn't one of them.
