One name probably comes to most locals' minds when mentioning the world barbeque: Phil's. The joint is an institutional favorite that slathers on the sauce and has perfected the slow-cook for years. Though the place is not keen on taking reservations, there's a way around that - book a party for a few tables, and you will be sure to get a table. To limit yourself just simple to Phil's would limit your taste buds - when you think about traditional barbeque, most folks head east where you can actually see where your food came from. Top off some spare ribs with a rodeo, cowboy boots and line dancing, and you will completely forget that you are in San Diego - let alone California. San Diego has another unique take on the whole barbeque thing, though, which makes venturing into this style of cuisine totally unknown for most bbq lovers. It's the Korean bbq, and for fans of the traveling food truck you'll known all too well about Kogi, one of the originals. Special occasions call for Kogi BBQ, but on most days locals will be happy with just something simple from one of the several Korean bbq spots that line the cost - from Buga Korean BBQ, to Tofu House or Korea House.
