Ice Cream in San Diego

San Diego is home to the sun, so it's not surprising that as a dessert, ice cream is one of our favorite ways to keep us cool. But just like we love our dessert, we also care way too much about our figures so yogurt has become the more popular alternative.
So yogurt isn't technically ice cream, it's one San Diego option that includes fruit and candy sides. Of course, the new chain YogurtLand is a classic, but if you want to go more traditional then head toward downtown for a truly delicious caloric intake at Ghiradelli in Gaslamp or downtown's two Extraordinary Desserts locations.

Traditional ice cream sundaes are huge at Ghiradelli, a San Francisco treat that supplies locals and tourists heaping chocolate dishes filled with ooey gooey freshly prepared chocolate. On the other side of things, Extraordinary Desserts doesn't do anything simply, let alone ice cream. With all kinds of desserts available at the Hillcrest and downtown location, toppings are just the beginning.

Go even more traditional with some chain restaurants, but it's one of our local finds - Sammy's Woodfire Pizza - that has a classic ice cream dish that topples all others. Their massive ice cream float is big enough for an entire party, which is just what Sammy's joint is all about.
