Salzburg spices up its sometimes heavy range of Austrian fare with a variety of Italian restaurants. If you feel like a change of pace, check out these places. Pasta e Vino offers delicious homemade pasta, which you can eat in or take away. When you enter the shop you feel as if you're in Northern Italy. Pizzeria il Sole is a well-managed Italian restaurant that sits immediately adjacent to the lower stage of the Monchsberg elevator. The mood is charming and convivial and the prices are relatively modest. Also situated next to the Monchsberg lift, Pan e Vin has a French name but Italian food. The owner brings many products from Italy, including San Daniele ham, fresh pesto and exquisite Italian wines. Wasserfall can prove difficult to find, as the entrance to the Linzergasse seems to lead you into a dark alleyway, but it's worth the search because it's a charming little place. Mozart wrote a lot of Italian operas and the Italian restaurants of his hometown sing just as sweetly on your palate.
